Morrison Secures Major Decommissioning Contract from BSEE for Gulf of Mexico Pipelines
Chet Morrison Contractors, LLC (Morrison) announces the award of a crucial pipeline decommissioning contract by the Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement (BSEE). This contract marks a pivotal step in addressing the longstanding issue of orphaned infrastructure in the Gulf of Mexico.
Morrison will conduct essential on-site pipeline decommissioning activities, focusing on eight pipelines in the Matagorda Island Area approximately 12 miles off the Texas coast.
This project is part of a broader initiative to enhance offshore safety and reduce environmental risks. By decommissioning abandoned infrastructure, BSEE aims to mitigate potential interference with navigation, commercial fisheries, and other current or future ocean uses.
Decommissioning orphaned pipelines will contribute to the long-term health of the Gulf ecosystem and open up areas for safer navigation and commercial activities.
For four decades, Morrison has been a key player in the growing field of offshore decommissioning.
“Morrison values its long-standing relationship with BSEE and appreciates their continued confidence in our team to deliver on this important decommissioning initiative,” said Chet Morrison, CEO and founder of Morrison. “BSEE recognizes that Morrison is more than qualified to handle a scope of this magnitude. We will utilize our experienced people, our versatile fleet of barges and equipment, and the smart approach that we’ve become known for over the years.”
Through this work, Morrison continues to establish trust and confidence with stakeholders, including regulators. Morrison’s innovative endeavors throughout the Gulf demonstrate its position as an industry leader in decommissioning. Over the next five years, Morrison and BSEE will collaborate to effectively address the technical challenges of pipeline decommissioning.
