Morrison, through a contract with Aikido Technologies, Inc., a floating wind technology provider, fabricated a 1:4 scale 100kW floating wind platform. Morrison’s Fabrication Division in Harvey, Louisiana, performed all necessary assembly and testing of the Aikido One platform.
Upon completion of fabrication and assembly, the scale demonstrator model was transported to Port Pascagoula, where it was tested off Singing River Island Pier. Morrison assembled the unit horizontally and using water ballast, it was upended and then locked out with pins to form the stabilized platform.
The Aikido One Demonstrator will represent the largest floating wind platform constructed in the US to date and will be the world’s first upending semi-submersible platform. Proving this concept in realistic conditions will show how the Aikido Platform can solve challenges facing the floating wind industry in the US and around the world, relating to serial production and limited port space.
Morrison applied its 40 years of energy sector fabrication expertise to deliver the platform and help Aikido get closer to proving its theory that an entire wind turbine can be assembled at a dry dock, without the need to switch ports or yards.
