What aspect of your current role do you enjoy the most?
One simple word, Leadership. A project will not run safely and successfully without a true leader, which is someone who has strong communication skills and inspires the team on a regular basis. Not all projects are fun projects, especially for divers, but the right words can motivate anyone.
What is your favorite part about working in this industry?
My favorite part of working in the O&G industry is following in my father’s footsteps. My father is a renowned Commercial Diving Project Manager, whom several current Morrison employees and clients have worked with in the past. My father set a high standard for the Smith name and it drives me each and every day too not only live up to the expectations set by him, but to exceed those expectations for my coworkers, clients and myself.
What has been your favorite project at Morrison?
My favorite project to date at Morrison is the pipeline installation campaign we performed for Arena/Rosefield in 2019. Not only was the project successful for all parties involved, but I gained new friendships, both internally at Morrison and externally with clients. I was the Project Manager for the diving and fabrication operations. The vessels I managed during the campaign, were both the DSV Joanne Morrison and DSV Kelly Morrison. The scope of work included installing riser clamps, riser spools, subsea valve assemblies and the mitigation of crossings.
What do you like most about working with Morrison?
Working at Morrison is like working with family. I have a sense of independence and feel heard as an employee, which grants me the freedom to express my opinion and come up with creative solutions for projects and for the company.
Ryan celebrated a year with Morrison this past June. When he’s not working you’ll find him playing golf or spending quality time with his family and three step-children.
